Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa, which makes it one of the least developed as well. This, however, does not mean that it isn’t worth a visit- quite the contrary. One of the highlights of any trip to Malawi is a day or two (Or three, or four…) spent lounging on the shores of Lake Malawi- the 3rd largest lake in Africa, and 8th largest in the world. Snorkeling, SCUBA diving, windsurfing, and all other types of water sports are common on the lake- a huge draw for both locals and tourists alike. Malawi is also famous for is wood carvings and crafts- there are markets and galleries everywhere, and ample opportunities to try your own hand at carving a keepsake. The people are amazingly friendly and generous, and seem to have been born with smiles on their faces.
